Drag to set position!
I love the Arts I teach Art and Media studys at Winchester.
for a time I worked in the Theatre which was areally great time in my life.
I went to North End Secondary School, Eastleigh, in the late sixties early seventies, where I learnt nothing of real interest.
One art teacher told me that I was unsuitable and that there was no real point in joining his class. There was however one art teacher, a Mr Parry that did offer me a place. Mr Parry spent most of his time in the art storeroom smoking! So it was not surprising that he had a lot of time off work with ill health. I was left in the art room to get on with my own work and even teach some of the first and second year pupils. The stand-in teachers seldom turned up knowing that I was there!
Over the last two years of my schooling I spent most of my time doing art and psychology, setting a pattern for things to come. I passed exams in History and Art.
Sad to say the school shelved the psychology course after just one year, which upset me and my teacher Mr Johnson who continued teaching me psychology on the bus travelling home.
Soon after I left school I started working life as an apprentice motor mechanic working for my father at Brooklyn Engineering, Chandlers Ford, Hampshire, before moving on to lorry driving for the same company.
Four years past and I found myself working in the world of the theatre, working backstage at the Theatre Royal, Winchester. I worked as a Set Designer, painting large backdrops and repairing West End sets, working with my soon to be wife Susan. When the theatre closed for renovation in the early eighties I was involved in restoration of the circle and ceiling of the theatre as a Pargeter (decorative plaster worker) restoring the heads of the cherubs and ceiling bosses. Marrying in 1982, We soon had our first baby girl Hannah in 1983. By this time I was working at Leigh House Hospital bringing my art to a wider group of young people down to this day with my own art studio at the hospital. I and the young people have turned out some fine work over many years. Among some of the other things that you will find I've done are beer labels from two breweries. Hampshire Brewery in Romsey and the other Sussex Brewery in, you got it, Sussex. Both Brewery’s have long gone.
And finely I've always been influenced by Walt Disney as many children. And at one time I had art on sale in Disney World USA in the form of beer mats - still it’s a start.
