Mid-30s, I enjoy washing precious metals down the drain.

Been on flickr since the very beginning (Feb 2004) -- back when this was just a flash-based chatroom with photographs, run from Canada. Anyone remember when they used to give away pro accounts? ;)

While I don't participate as much here these days, I still have a soft-spot for the place. For my more recent work, you can find me at my photoblog, my silver and alt-process tumblr weblog, and on twitter.

Statement

I believe the perception of subject is subtly but critically influenced by the medium of presentation. The inherent quality of photograph as physical item to be intimately interacted with is being lost as photography transforms in to just another form of digital content to be endlessly duplicated.

I have chosen to rebel against this through the use of precious metal salts like platinum and single-image processes such as the ambrotype and tintype to try and recapture the status of the photograph as rare — and some times singular — object.

What can be viewed here and shared without limit is only a representation — a visual simulacra of physical objects that are meant to be held in the hand.
