Welcome to my Flickr profile.
I am now a retired physicist/telecommunications engineer/manager. I have been shooting pictures since 1969 and since 2001 archived most all my film days photos by scanning the negatives. Most all of my archived film photos and my newer digital images are uploaded to Flickr.
My Flickr images span a time period from when I began shooting, approximately 1969 to present. If you want to learn more, below is a brief synopsis of my photographic journey.
I am pretty sure that my interest in photography began in late 1968 or early 1969. My friend Jim introduced me to darkroom processing and I was "skilled" enough by June, 1969 to win the school photographer job for the following year (9th grade for me) in my Junior High school.
Around this time I was shooting with a "toy" 35mm camera but I was saving my money to buy a decent but cheap 35mm SLR. I think the model I was interested in was an Exakta 500 but I have no memory of why I would want that particular model.
My toy camera locked up on me and while I was still saving money and my family intervened. For my 15th birthday, they stunningly presented me with a Mamiya/Sekor 500TL camera with the standard 50mm f/2 lens. This was a princely gift from my family at that point in time, since the $150 dollars that camera cost could feed our family of 5 for 5-6 weeks. Of course, I had to pay back the cost of the camera but it was still a magnificent gift. I still give a lot of credit to Jerry for fueling my early interest and mentoring all of us kids.
My photographic journey took a few twists and turns since that 15th birthday. I helped shoot three yearbooks in high school and did work for the school paper. After high school I became somewhat burned out and rarely picked up the camera except for certain occasions and events. This photographic lethargy lasted for too long.
Two events happened in the late 1980's that caused me to shoot more often; A work project for AT&T Bell Laboratories required me to shoot a lot and the birth of my son got me thinking about picking up a camera and using it. In the late 1990's, my friend Ken got me interested in some of the newer cameras and I purchased my first auto focus system. I have been on the slippery slope of acquiring gear since then.
Lightning struck 35 years later, when my family and friends presented me with a brand new EOS 20D digital SLR on my 50th birthday. This was totally unexpected and a spectacular gesture. Much to my wife's dismay, I shoot even more now.
