While photography is not a passion, I have always been interested in compiling a photo journal of people, places and events in my life. I do not seek out new subjects to photograph, I simply take the camera along for the ride. If something catches my eye, I try to capture the image "as I saw it". When it comes to photo editing, apart from cropping, I try to keep the photos natural.

When I wrote the above in 2008, I had replaced my trusty old Canon A-1 35mm film camera with my first digital camera, an Olympus SP50UZ. In November 2009 I purchased a Canon EOS 450D with EFS 18-55mm and 55-250mm lens. That gave me the motivation to actually seek out and record what was going on around me.

In February 2013 my EOS450D started to develop problems. Canon said is was due to moisture penetration which in my location 'comes with the territory'. Residing in Darwin, it is a common problem that afflicts all manner of sensitive electronic equipment. Canon's generosity extended to supplying a replacement EOS600D at the equivalent price to repair. This was followed a short time later with the purchase of my first quality lens, a Canon EF17-40f/1:4 L USM and subsequently a Canon EF70-300 1:4-5.6 L IS USM. At some point in the future I will make the transition to a full frame camera body.

In regard to Flickr, I find it a convenient site to store and share my photographs. I particularly enjoy researching and writing the narrative. In doing so I usually gain a deeper insight into my subject. Please feel free to comment on any of my photographs and subject matter. All types of comments are appreciated, including additional information, corrections, observations or good humour (the dryer, the better).
