I'm a materialist, and socialist, and intrigued by evolutionary theory, geology, palaeontology, art and the English Revolution of the 17th Century (the green ribbon was the badge of the Leveller soldiers and other political radicals from the 1640's to the Monmouth Rebellion of 1685). I work pat time as a Welfare Rights Adviser, I studied full time for a degree in History at the Universtiy of the West of England, graduating in 2011. Since then I have been a postgraduate student at University of Sussex. In September 2013 I will commence a PhD in history at St Andrews Uinveristy (although I'll remain Brighton based).

My favourite photographers include Ansel Adams, Tina Modotti, Sebastien Selgado, Edward Weston, Man Ray and Imogen Cunningham. I'm particularly interested by Cunningham's friendship and work with the great Mexican Artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Riviera. Frida is probably my favourite artist of all time, but I also like Hieronymous Bosch, JMW Turner, Blake and Goya.

I've rediscovered photography in the last couple of years, and found using a small digital camera quite liberating. About 15 years ago I did chemical/mechanical photography (I think the 'analogue' is a misnomer in this context -- how is the image taken by a chemical camera any more analagous to reality than that taken with digital camera?) using Practikas. In some ways the experience was more satisfying, but being poorly co-ordinated I found developing a bind and couldn't afford to pay for commercial processing.

I had a hiatus in my photography last year when I lost my camera (a very good 8 mega pixel from Lidl) but am now back up and running thanks to a friend lending me a very basic 2 mp Canon with a crack across the display screen, I'm pleasantly surprised by the quality of the images I can get with even with this.

I like to take pictures of nature, the countryside, architecture and townscapes, I don't find it easy to photograph people or have my own photo taken, so you won't see many portraits on my site. Feel free to comment or message me.
