Eighty-four years young......."you're not too old until you say you are"........“Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.” Mark Twain
Retired following thirty-one years (1974-2005) as director of Systemwide Electronic Library Information Resources (SEIR) with The California State University, Chancellor's Office (CSUCO) in Long Beach, California. Earlier career included work as a registered securities representative with Stern, Frank, Meyer and Fox in Beverly Hills and, associate specialist with Schweickart & Co. on trading floor of The Pacific Coast Stock Exchange in Los Angeles. Discovered computers while working towards a degree at California State University, Northridge. Subsequently employed as a computer programmer and systems-design specialist for major firms in aerospace (North American Aviation, Rockwell Int'l, TRW Systems), life insurance and mutual fund industries (Transamerica Mutual Funds, Equity Funding Corp).
Graduated (Bachelor of Science degree) with a minor in history and major in finance from California State University at Northridge in 1966.
I took up photography as a hobby soon after my retirement in 2005. To increase my knowledge of the art I signed up for courses at nearby Community College of San Mateo and continued taking them for the next five years. I will continue to go back every so often for a refresher but, for now, I simply enjoy taking short trips and exploring the San Francisco Bay/Northern California area for whatever is likely to show up in my viewfinder.
I include a brief written description with each of my photographs. I hope that they will add to your knowledge and enjoyment of the image. You may also get detailed technical information (Exchangeable Image File Format or, EXIF data) by clicking on "More properties" under "Additional Information". However, should you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
PLEASE NOTE: The large majority of images I have posted and share with you on this site are my personal work and the property of Evan Reader, Greatest Paka Photography, with all rights reserved. I ask that you enjoy the images on this site but please don't reproduce, copy, edit, publish, transmit or upload them without my prior notification and permission. If there is an image that you would like to use please contact me via Flickr email ( ereader@sbcglobal.net ) and I would be honored and happy to discuss terms of usage. If you intend to use them for yourself or for non-commercial or non-profit use I generally won't mind their use without fee so long as appropriate credit is given. If they are used for commercial or for profit then, I would appreciate something for my work. This will only help me to offset some of the expenses I incur from this wonderful hobby.
And, finally, a number of viewers have asked me what "Greatest Paka" means. It was some years ago when my, then infant, grand-daughter bestowed that title on me. Its possible that she was trying to say "Papa", though I'm not her Papa, but that's what came out.....She, and later her younger brother (my grandson), have continued to call me that ever since.
