Well, I originally planned Flickr to simply be a way for people to see my mischief and adventures in New Zealand and the surrounding oceans. Photos were sometimes by other people, often featured me, and were not necessarily interesting to anyone aside from that (thanks for viewing though mum!). But since Facebook takes care of that sort of thing thesedays, I am now going to use Flickr for those pictures that I've taken that I like from a photographic point of view, whether it's simply a picture of a beautiful place, or me being bored and poncing around with camera settings and liking the result. Comments, hints and tips about photography would be appreciated too, bearing in mind I have a point n'click and don't use photoshop! although have recently downloaded GIMP for things like cropping and white balance adjustment.

I often spend time on quiet night shifts browsing photos here and being touched and amazed in that weird way that only a picture can.
