Staff Nurse with a penchant for pointing a camera whilst walking my near surroundings. MUST be film with tried and trusted Pentax LX. The Warhorse. I don't tend to bother taking many pics when on holiday. It's a time to sit and relax. So, I tend to take camera and point half-heartedly. Living in my near surrounding Wales is a joyful experience for someone that carries the LX in the Billingham alongside a hot flask of espresso and some food in a bag. I'm not into photography as a hobby in a big way at all. Just take a walk now and again with the LX (sometimes use a flimsy old tripod bought from a boot fair for £2 that folds down to coat pocket size too. Nice and light.) and capture a few pics of the local spots. Nursing is a busy job so it's nice to just relax, take a stroll, point the camera at something interesting and snap. Bought myself a 1972 VW Danbury Camper which will be my excuse to park up and take photos a little further afield. Bored of my takes....???? Will become a bit more so I suppose as time rolls by. My eyes and memory are what I value most.

About the pictures on the site? A few years back I picked up some secondhand darkroom equipment from a boot fair. Very basic stuff and the local recycling shop had a batch of old dusty Kodak/Ilford papers from the 80's. So I had a go and the results you can see. I'd like to give it another go but the small cleaned up log room out the back back I used at the time has to be de-spidered and cleaned up. Can I be bothered?? I always was a bit bad on the technical front and need to relearn how to develop film all over again.

Black and White is atmospheric and I like to see my work in this format. Don't take anything with a colour film at all.

I use the Pentax LX with a couple of lens. It's a wonderful piece equipment and a classic camera. Also, I wouldn't even begin to think about changing to digital. Forget it! The mystery of the latent image is just about perfect. The Silver stuff every time.

Music, photography, art...... whatever our interests, we're lucky people to be able share our interests on this world wide level aren't we? And I for one am overawed by the talent that exists out there. Culturally it is a stunning adventure.

Fancy an excursion?? Try www.myspace.com/xcerts1978. Get the earplugs ready though.

mr. summers has got the style it takes. that already would probably all there is to say about his photography. other words would be: convincing, concise, coherent, simple, strong. on his photos everything is right and there is nothing bothering, no superfluous, superficial stuff. on the contrary, his images and the words he finds to accompany those very images always have some kind of depth. that kind of depth that is a characteristic that this person has seen something and believes in it and just and simply and plainly photographes it - life, art. art is life and life is art and that's that. simple. the result of this are photographs which stand independently on their own, each a little diligent treasure and display an unique worldview. I feel a gratitude for their existence which leads to most appropriate words to describe the characteristics - the air - of mr. summers' photography and these words are: a generous awe.

Gray Summers is one of the finest Black and White photographers on Flickr. He uses film and does his own developing and printing. Results are stunning. His landscapes of Wales are wonderful to behold with terrific tones and composition. And Gray does this while going to university full time and being a father. His work often shows his concern for nature and fellow humans, for he is a thoughtful man and truly caring. In addition, Gray is an accomplished musician and was at one time in a very good rock band. I look forward to seeing what new works Gray posts on Flickr and I think you will, also. Give his photostream a good look. His work is professional and inspirational to the rest of us who value photography as an art form.
