I'm Edinburgh born and bred and my main photographic interest is of the city itself and in particular the views of the city from it's many vantage points. The bulk of the images you will find on this website are from Edinburgh and it's surrounding areas. There will also be a selection of images from around other areas of central Scotland, in particular, East Lothian.

My images have been published in many media outlets including the Edinburgh Evening News, Scotsman, Metro, List Magazine, Jessops Image Magazine and in particular, Edinburgh Life Magazine where I have had several front covers and interior images.

Edinburgh Life Magazine cover shots

I have also had images of Edinburgh used by several media outlets websites including BBC News, Guardian, Telegraph & Sunday Times

I also have several images licenced to the Heart of the Garden greetings card company who's quality products can be found in numerous outlets throughout the country including John Lewis.

As a web developer for the last 12 years I was also responsible for the design, build and all the images on the website of popular Edinburgh resaurant, Maxies Bistro.

I have my own blog where I like to ramble on about photography in Edinburgh and share my findings about locations and techniques I find have worked for me.

Feel free to contact me if you want to discuss anything at all about my images or even photography in Edinburgh in general.

Equipment

I made a decision years ago to go with Nikon cameras, a decision that has served me well.

My current kit list includes...

2 Nikon DSLR's

Nikon D7000 + battery grip

Nikon D90

The D7000 is a fairly recent purchase but what a class act it is, at at that price it's like mugging Nikon for it!

Lenses I have a slight fetish for, always want more. Currently I am using...

Nikon 18-200mm f3.5/5.6 DX VRII - Great general purpose lens!

Nikon 50mm f1.8 - Well, everyone has one don't they?

Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 EX HSM - Best lens I ever bought.

Sigma 10-20mm f4.5/5.6 EX - Quality wide angle lens

Sigma 105mm EX DG Macro - What a lens, just doesnt work on the D7000 though!

Lensbaby 3G - for those selective focus kicks.

Digital Holga - Holga on a DSLR! Cool...

Sigma 2x teleconverter

I'd also be lost without my trusty Hahnel Giga T remote, the prince of camera remote controls.

And onto Filters...

I stated out with p series filters, cheap and cheerful and utterly frustrating. Now I've moved up to the Lee foundation kit but with the current lack of Lee filters anywhere have got hold of some Hitech 150 soft grads which are a revelation. Fantastic filters, no colour cast in the slightest.

I also have a brace of 10 stoppers, a 77mm Heliopan ND3.0 and a Hitech Pro Stopper, ND3.0, both useful in different situations as I like my long exposure stuff.

I use a Giottos tripod which feels like it's cast from solid iron but it does an admirable job and takes the punishment it gets, and it gets a lot.

Finally, I lump all this around in either a Lowepro Mini Trekker for travelling light or a Lowpro bigger than your house if I don't.

The DONT STEAL MY PICTURES BIT

I put a LOT of time and effort, and on occasion, even blood and sweat into these images. Please don't nick them and pass them off as your own or upload them to these lame wallpaper sites. I ALWAYS pursue in cases of copyright infringement. Ask me, you never know what the answer might be. You can also buy prints directly from me here.
