I believe in staying healthy and slim by daily aerobic exercise and a balanced diet. My eating style is The Zone (Barry Sears).
I am interested in every aspect of the natural world, especially the smaller details. I have seen more than 6,400 species of birds in the world. I am now doing TARGET-BIRDING: not looking at every bird over and over---rather hiring guides to take me to see specific species which I haven't seen anywhere in the WORLD yet....3 months in Costa Rica and 3 months in Colombia so gar...... I came across Shirley's photos on flickr and was instantly impressed with her ability to capture the beauty in all of her subjects. Insects that one might surely miss with their naked eye are especially well documented by this amazing photographer. I sincerely look forward to viewing her photos every day! :)

I share several traits with Shirley -- we both have a home base in Washington state, we are both educators (though she's lucky enough to be retired from it), and we are both dedicated naturalists. However, I am truly awed by the time and effort she puts into nature photography, especially in the tropics. She is actively amassing one of the most impressive collections of images of tropical flora and fauna on the internet, especially for the neotropical region! Her images of Lepidoptera and other insects are particularly amazing, and I always make it my business to scan through a new posting from her on Flickr for the next spectacular photo of some new treasure from the rain forests or the tropical mountains. Long may she roam in the wild places!

The butterfly macro shots are just stunning!!! She has captured so much beauty through her work and I am so happy she has shared it with the rest of us.
