Good neighbors are no longer just the people you share the street with. They aren't just the people who lend you a cup full of suka or harina when you've run out, or the people you invite over for pansit and siopao when it's your four-year-old's birthday. Now that the internet is allowing us to get in touch with people far and near, there are those who stand out as unique, who open their lives to us - and leave us with a lesson learned, a glimmer of hope, or just a feeling that we have somehow connected with another human being in spite of the cast-iron impersonality of looking at your computer screen and using web-pseudonyms. These unique folks are vulnerable, perhaps, in the all-access fishbowl that the web is, but the risk they take has been beneficial to me. As long as people like them are around, we won't be swallowed by technology, but may just touch other lives through it. Marco and Gracinha, thank you for being a good kapitbahay. Your pictures speak volumes of what makes a family strong. God bless you three.
