Gidday, my name is Angie and I’m a 1977 baby. I’m a public servant who dreamed of being Humphrey from Yes, Prime Minister as a young lass, so followed her dream to Canberra. I have the attention span of a gnat.

I fell in love with the man in the cubicle next to mine and we were married in 2005. It’s the best decision I ever made. (Just don’t tell him that!)

I’m a flaming hypochondriac. I love to travel but only went overseas for the first time in July 2006 (Thailand and Singapore). I was convinced I was going to be abducted, falsely accused of smuggling drugs, suffer food poisoning so bad I wouldn’t be able to fly back home and get a third degree sunburn all while butchering the Thai language. (Got the food poisoning and sunburn – thankfully no run in’s with customs!) I’ve seen every capital city in Australia and parts of it that even National Geographic would find remote. I love my country and I’m so very proud to call it home.

I’m a backsliding Presbyterian who constantly thinks of her faith but does nothing to nourish it. I have a killer appetite for anything highly preserved, enhanced with additives and bound to make me diabetic just by looking at it. My weight became such an issue in my life that I opted to have 80% of my stomach removed to try and extend my life. It’s the second best decision I’ve ever made.

I’m a total clutz. If you can trip over it, fall down it, break it or be impaled on it – I’ll do it. I think exercise is a form of taxation. I constantly prove that Newton’s Three Laws of Motion are based in sound proven fact. A lot of my time is spent trying to remember where I got that mystery bruise from.

I have Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome and Endometriosis. In April 2009 I had an ovarian cyst removed that was the size of an American football and weighed 2.5kg. It’s the biggest thing I’ve ever grown! But I’m hoping that I’ll be able to top that with a pumpkin from our veggie patch one day. In 2010 we started down the path of IVF in an attempt to have our own children. It’s been painful, heart breaking, frustrating and at times downright amusing.

In June 2012, after 5 embryo transfers, we were blessed with our own little miracle. He’s the best thing I’ve ever had a hand in making. Parenthood is my new adventure.

I’m a born again Quilter. I’ve always lusted after quilts when I’ve seen them in movies, television or other people’s homes but I flunked out of Home Economics in High School so the thought of making a quilt scared me witless. (Who knew you could get -3 out of 100 on a sewing exam!) My Nana gifted me her sewing machine and it made me think that maybe I should make a quilt. In 2010 I made my first patchwork quilt top.

My Nana saw what I’d done and requested one of her own. I made her one because she’s wonderful and a quilt is the least I could do for the woman that made me mismatched panel shorts for my teenage years! So in 2011 I made my Nana a quilt. The experience made me think that maybe I should take a Beginner’s Quilt Course if I didn’t want to sew my fingers together.

In July 2011 I started something that would change my life in ways that I never would have imagined; I did a beginners quilting course. (When people ask me the secret to my IVF success I tell them 2 things: pineapple juice and taking a beginners quilt class! Our little miracle was conceived via IVF at the same time I was taking my beginners quilt course – obviously not IN the class, but I attribute my relaxed and laid back attitude during the treatment to the fact I was learning to be a quilter.)

In 2012 I made a decision to enter the Canberra Quilters Annual Quilt Exhibition and it was the catalyst for awaking a passion in me that I have never had about anything (other than chocolate, trashy television and baking) in my life. In 2013 I made a commitment to make a quilt top a month and it was the best thing I could have done – now I’m obsessed with fabrics, growing a massive to-do list of quilt patterns and meeting some of the most wonderful, inspiring and creative people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing.

I’m nothing without my spell checker. I love my life, my family, my friends, my messed up mutt, my teddy bear, my husband and my little man. I rant and rave and talk about nothing in particular.
