I have been taking photographs since I was a kid, but have been doing it professionally since 1984. My first real camera was a Canon AE-1, and I have since used Pentaxs, Minoltas, Nikons and now use a Canon Rebel.
As the former editor of The East County Californian (a weekly news publication in eastern San Diego County), I have had the opportunity to take thousands of news, sports, entertainment and feature photos over the years.
I have also covered three Super Bowls, a Rose Bowl, a World Series, several Holiday Bowls, numerous San Diego Chargers games, as well as the San Diego Padres and college, high school and youth sporting events.
I am now the sports and entertainment editor for the Santa Clarita Daily Signal, which is located 30 miles north of Los Angeles. I also co-host a weekly radio show on KOGO AM 600 in San Diego, "The Movie Guys," with Kevin Finnerty.
My favorite subjects, however, are my five children, Matthew, 20, Nathan, 14, Melissa, 12, Jonathan, 10, and Elizabeth, 8. They are the light of my life, but if anyone has viewed my photos on this site, you already know that.
Sports is a second love, and I have had the opportunity to shoot hundreds of sports action photos - from Little League to professional - for various news publications.
As a newspaper photographer, I am no fan of altering or enhancing pictures via PhotoShop trickery. My shots are done without studio props or fakery. And although I do not exercise such techniques, I do not condemn those who do. I just prefer my photos to be as natural, candid and pristine as can be.
