Born 11/30/84. I'm a theater director. Squirrels creep me out. I like green tea ice cream, tiny dogs, and anything shiny.
Professional Bio:
Gina Marie Hayes has worked previously as a director, assistant director, choreographer, and playwright. A graduate of the 5th Year Theater Arts program at the University of California, Santa Cruz, she has also founded two production companies: Shrunken Head Productions, a quarterly musical theater group in Santa Barbara, CA, and Red Egg Theater in Santa Cruz, CA. Red Egg Theatre is an umbrella name for a project attempting to create stronger ties between UCSC theater arts, Cabrillo students and theaters in Santa Cruz, Monterey, and the San Francisco Bay Area. The hope is that we can create opportunities for students which add professional credits to their resume, while earning revenue for area theaters.
Mrs. Hayes has been working on cross-disciplinary pieces, directing a dance-theater adaptation of Aeschylus' Prometheus Bound (Click here for video), as well as an original three part dance-play sequence titled Three Plays in Moonlight. Most recently she directed Goldfish in Alaska (an adaptation of Richard Brautigan's poetry) with Red Egg, incorporating movement, song and text.
Her interests include myths, legends, fairy tales, and daring adaptations of classical works. She is currently working on a puppet-play based on the true story of the Pied Piper of Hamlin.
