"Lakay" is an Ilocano term for buddy or friend and Gen is my nickname and that's where the flickr ID Gen_Lakay was created, a mark of a Genuine Ilocano.

I work as a Telecoms Engineer at Ericsson and during my free time I like squeezing my creative juices and indulge into my hobby that eventually became my passion, "photography".

My interest in photography began in 2007 when I got a project in Ericsson Brazil. I wanted to capture the scenic views of the breathtaking beaches and tourist spots of Brazil, particularly Rio De Janeiro and Sao Paulo. But the problem was, I don't have a camera. Thank you for my colleague who offered to sell his camera, a Canon Powershot S3, and that was my first!

I decided to take the next level of photography, July of 2008. I bought my first DSLR a Canon 40D with a kit lens. I attended a Basic Photography at CIIT Philippines conducted by Regie Fernando, the founder and owner of PiPho (Pinoy Photography - www.pinoyphotography.org).

To enhance my knowledge more, I joined photography groups and am proud to be a member of the Middle East Shutter Squad (M.E.S.S. - www.flickr.com/groups/me_shutter_squad/), a group formed by enthusiasts and talented photographers of Bahrain. My favorite subjects are landscape and portraiture.

I am still in the process of learning. For now, I just feel good being with my photography buddies and enjoy pressing the shutter-release button of my camera.

For me, photography is not just a skill but with an innate talent that defines your work from other photographers.
