gdanmitchell - View my recent photos on Flickriver

am a California photographer whose subjects include the Sierra Nevada, the coastal redwoods, oaks and grasslands, the spectacular Pacific shoreline, the stark beauty of Death Valley and desert areas east of the Sierra, night photography, and the urban landscape of the state and beyond — sometimes far beyond. I am incredibly lucky to live within driving (and hiking, skiing, and flying...) distance of a remarkable range of compelling subjects.

I am the author of "California's Fall Color: A Photographer's Guide To Autumn In The Sierra," published by Heyday Books and available directly from me, from Heyday Books, Amazon, and at local booksellers around the Sierra Nevada.

My reasons for being on Flickr include sharing photographs and ideas about photography with other Flickerites, and seeing the interesting and wonderful work from my contacts and others. It also is a good place to archive a whole lot of work I've done over the years.

G Dan Mitchell Photography is my main web site, where I post a new photograph every day, along with commentary on various photography subjects. You can become a member of the site and leave comments, discuss my photos and other posts, and ask questions.

I exhibit, sell prints, licenss photographs, and write on photographic subjects. My photography has been exhibited at The Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite Valley, the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel, the annual Yosemite Renaissance exhibition, the Harvey Milk Photo Center, San Francisco ArtSpan Open Studios (with the night photography groups The Nocturnes and Studio Nocturne SF), The Stellar Gallery, and other locations including public and private facilities in Death Valley National Park, the Carmel area, San Francisco, Chicago, and in Europe and Australia. My photographs appear in books and magazines, and I present talks on photographic subjects. I was a Yosemite Renaissance artist-in-residence in Yosemite National Park in 2018, and a show featuring work from the residency was presented at Gallery Five in the spring and summer of that year. Since 2011 I have photographed in the Sierra Nevada backcountry each summer with the “First Light” group.

It pleases me when people find my photographs interesting, beautiful, and/or inspiring and would like to share their experience. I just wrote this in the comment stream for one of my own photos, so I should repeat it here, where it really belongs: If you're going to peruse Dan Mitchell's photostream, pack a lunch and be prepared to drop your dentures. He's that good.

Dan's work is hard to capture in a few words. He's a tremendous landscape photographer, a master of fine detail and he surely knows how to play with light and shadow. Dan and I have an odd connection. Although we've never met nor have we spoken yet we some how we frequently photograph common locations with in weeks if not days of each other. Even though we photograph common subjects I'm always impressed and inspired by Dan's unique perspective. Needless to say I never tire of checking in to see Dan's latest photographic work and would highly recommend adding Dan to your short list if you have a limited amount of time to view images on Flickr.
