These days I mostly specialize in photographing arthropods in their natural habitats. I have found that there is a unique thrill to be had when searching through the wilderness and finding a tiny plant or animal that is particularly rare, interesting, or beautiful. That thrill is magnified when conditions permit the moment to be immortalized in a photo. I prefer working with natural light rather than flash, so I am often up before dawn to find arthropods slowed down by the cool night temperatures. On some occasions, these lethargic subjects may even stay motionless enough to allow me to record them in a focus stack—many images that each show a different slice in focus and can be combined in software for a wide depth of field.
