I started taking photos in 1964 during my last four years in the U.S. Navy. I paid $10.00 for a used, manually operated Kodak Pony 135 that I bought from a shipmate to record as much as possible from a cruise through the Mediterranean, Red Sea, and the Persian Gulf. Everything I shot was on Kodachrome ASA 25, and amazingly, the colors on those transparencies have kept well.

Through the years, I dabbled in photography and birding. I always thought combining the two pastimes and photographing birds would be interesting. Digital photography has made shooting birds, butterflies, dragonflies, insects, frogs, and all forms of wildlife easy and practical. In November 2006, I purchased my first DSLR, a Nikon D200. In February 2013, I upgraded to the Nikon D800, and in October 2017, I upgraded to the Nikon D850.

I live in Miami, Florida, USA, so most of my shooting is in Florida. I frequently travel to Colombia and Brazil, so some of my postings are from those countries.

Your gallery is a pure wonder. I would like to thank you first for doing me the honor of following my modest work. When I see all these birds with these magnificent colors and the quality of the photos, of course, it's a dream. Thank you again for sharing.
