Pittsburgh, 1943 - NYC, 2???

Suited it at IBM for many years & taught in NYU Film School for a few years.

Studied photography with Lisette Model & Ben Fernandez.

Photographing since adolescence, through obsolescence,

including 33 years making images and sharing mixed emotions with Ed Otto.

We never signed; we never showed.

Now I can't even say whether some of the old pix were shot by Ed or by Fred.

All the new pix must be mine, since Ed's gone, and here I am, signing & showing.

I'm fascinated by the relationship and organization of

light, shade, color, line, form and memory,

especially as they are manifest in visual arts like photography,

and in the visions seen behind our closed eyelids.

Photographs and soap bubbles, iridescent soap bubbles...

An image and then it's gone, but perhaps remembered.

The being and the image and the memory and the photograph:

These are not what is eternal, but they are shadows it casts.......

I believe that all matter and energy of the Universe will rearrange itself to all possible variations in the course of Eternity... & eternally repeat.

The World is Boiling Vapor.

I believe there are enough pictures already,

so it's a mystery why making more images gives me such pleasure.
