Frans van Hoogstraten / the Netherlands

Thank you for taking the time to visit my photostream and to read this "about".

Our world is turbulent, noisy and full of distraction. With my landscape photographs I try to provide silence, comfortable places of rest. When all goes quiet, unusual things seem to happen and sometimes it even looks as if the landscape is trying to reveal a hidden mystery. These occasions give rise to a never-ending fascination and craving for being there, recognizing it and capturing it at the right moment..

This work isn't realistic. Although the images display the actual sceneries in an honest way, they tend to look rather imaginary, composing illusions with a timeless appearance. They invite to linger in a soothing state of permanency, trying to forget that the dimension of time even pervades the most wonderful landscapes. Looming changes will erase our perceptions and memories.

Fran's photo gallery is full of photos of great beauty. It is worth taking a closer look. Personally, I love his black and white landscape photography.

I found quite by accident the images of the Silmer and Delarue mine in Cayeux-Sur-Mer that Frans published on Flickr by Frans in February 2020. I was intrigued by to subject ... but mostly fascinated by the beauty that Frans was able to extract from this most unusual subject... I don't think I have ever seen beautiful images of mines before .... I first felt that the attraction to Frans' image was residing in its ability to look where very few of us look and for opening our eyes to the most unexpected possibilities! But perhaps it is as he describes it above, it resides in its talent to listen to the silence. All I know, is that I started following Frans on Flickr for the beauty and quality of his ART but I quickly discovered the beauty and quality of his Heart... He is a very beautiful and generous person who makes Flickr a better place to be... His images go beyond being beautiful, they are tickling all senses.
