For all the years I have spent taking photographs of other people, it occurs to me that this collection stands as my self-portrait even though you will find only a few pictures of me in it. It is a record of the people, things, and events I have seen and been a part of throughout the life of my family and as a member of my community. I was present for the moment each photograph was taken. The photographs of the people and events stored in these files constitute a story of my life I would never have thought to record in writing. Many of the older family photos are coded for family and friends and will not be viewable by everyone. But there are thousands that I have taken to record live theater produced in my community. There are a few albums of travel photos, although I have never traveled much and only once outside the U.S. -- a dinner trip to Nuevo Laredo while attending a conference on the Texas side once upon a time.
Some of the earliest pictures were taken with a camera I bought from another soldier at Fort Carson in 1968, a Voigtlander Vitessa for which I paid him $10. I moved up through Olympus and Canon equipment until I arrived in the digital era with my first digital a Sony 3.2 MP camera. Then to the Canon PowerShot GS 11, and the EOS Rebel line.
On November 27, 2017, I noticed that my photos have been viewed in total over a million times on Flickr. My settings are such that the counter does not include my own views. The only "cheating" occurs when I allow my grandson to use my alter-Flickr-ego to view and fave some pictures he likes. I enjoy getting the email notifications.

Tom and I share a love of the camera, Houston, the Gulf Coast and so very much more. His wonderful photos are unmatched in recording not just the places and the times, but the people, the arts that they express themselves through and so many other elements of their/our culture. Tom also has a wonderful ability, in just a brief comment, to make me look at one of my own photos from a new or wider perspective. Thank you, Tom!
