Forty Hall is one of the finest houses in England and a keystone in the story of London’s growth as a world city. Standing in its own Estate with formal gardens, parkland, lakes and café, you could spend many hours exploring here.

Built in 1629 by Sir Nicholas Rainton, a former Lord Mayor of London, the Hall tells stories of the merchant classes of the city and you’ll learn about the archaeological remains of Henry VIII’s hunting lodge, Elsyng Palace, which lies to the north of the grand lime avenue.

The venue boasts a busy family-friendly programme of art, ecology and heritage activities including seasonal events, exhibitions, education activities, historic tours, guided walks, art installations and performance. With something to offer all ages and interests, Forty Hall events are perfect for a family day out.

From December 2010 to December 2011, Forty Hall will undergo a major restoration project of £4.8million funded by Enfield Council and Heritage Lottery Fund. The house will be closed to the public and will reopen in Spring 2012. The park will remain open during the refurbishment. Forty Hall & Estate will not only tell the story of Sir Nicholas Rainton and life in the 17th century, it will also be a centre of excellence for art, ecology, heritage through learning, and events & exhibitions – part of London’s visitor offer for 2012 when London welcomes the world!
