Let your ideas be inspired by Floor Designs
Are you seeking inspiration for a new interiors look?
The answer could literally be at your feet. While wall and ceiling colour is a popular starting point, floors are the next biggest surface area – and can prove an equally useful springboard.
So next time you jump-start your home, try designing your home from the ground up! A word of warning: think twice before heading for your nearest warehouse type retailer. These outlets are often marketing vehicles staffed by people with little working knowledge of floor coverings. Always look for a specialist company.
Floors Designs who are a family owned business, Chris Craig the store manager helps dispel a few misconceptions.
“New flooring companies can access stock quickly and put emphasis on selling the product”, he points out. “The trade has tended to be a “try-it-out and see” industry, with customers thinking a product will be fine so long as they pay enough. But it should be more a case of “buy right” than “Buy Expensive” And comparing estimates is not meaningful unless you know what a company is going to do for you – the higher bottom line estimate might be better value”
Chris offers additional pointers. First, if possible check out what you have in mind on the internet “People tend to come in nowadays with some idea of what they want and, importantly, whether its within their budget.” Realise that expensive flooring will require more, not less, effort to keep looking good. “in the UK , unlike the rest of Europe, we’re not maintenance – friendly.”
Both flooring and clothing made from man-made fibres will be hard-wearing (i.e., they won’t get threadbare as fast, say, as wool but unlike wool they won’t retain appearance either. So the world of floor coverings is about upsides and downsides. Natural is better than synthetic but synthetic cost less, accept there are no absolutes and choosing becomes a whole lot of fun.
