Our world floats through the universe like a bottle in the ocean and we're just along for a small part of the ride. I find joy in trying to capture some of the moments that float by me. I try to post daily pictures during the week of the floating world around me.

I first encountered the phrase, 'pictures of the floating world' in Japan. It's a translation of 'ukiyo-e', a type of Japanese wood-block painting that tries to capture the beauty and impermanence of life. I love Asai Ryoi's explanation of the concept: "... Living only for the moment, turning our full attention to the pleasures of the moon, the snow, the cherry blossoms and the maple leaves; singing songs, drinking wine, diverting ourselves in just floating, floating; ... refusing to be disheartened, like a gourd floating along with the river current: this is what we call the floating world..."
