My Stament - "As an individual, I have become ever-growingly interested in the creative sector of education and work. In the past I’ve found a lot of academic subjects undemanding to learn and quite monotonous in self-study, however the creative and constructive subjects expected more of me and so challenged my abilities, gave me drive to constantly develop and inspired my creative personality. They further stimulated an enthusiasm for drawing, painting and designing and left me wanting more of the enticing creative challenge. Fine Art has been my main A level outlet and input towards this creative interest. Throughout, I have been studying a wide range of artistic styles (such as that of Nina Murdoch and Jenny Saville), looking further into themes inspired by history and society as well as the techniques that create the visual works. These techniques used a range of media, from LED and textile to charcoal and paint. As well as these collected skills, I have gained an understanding of time management as it requires hours of dedicated graft to create quality in addition to quantity. Along side this, have gained great experience and practice through extra-curricular Life Drawing that I have attended throughout my two college years and aided my basic drawing and painting skills concerning the human form. I have also improved my skills in language, using learnt Spanish whilst on an art research trip to Barcelona. English Language allowed me uses a different side to the creative genre, looking at the construction of spoken language, language in relation to gender and looking at the conventions of novels, producing my own creative writing example in the form of fantasy for young audiences. From it I have gained skills in spoken and written communication as well as numerous presentational and analytical skills. It further inspired my extra-curricular, joining the college magazine in which we completed two very successful issues that I created various design and feature pieces within, leading a small team for the second issue. This gained me skills in team leadership, production and business. The AS Product Design has given me another creative outlet that incorporates problem solving and business initiative, producing an outcome with a sense of requirement and use. From it I gained skills in multiple computer programmes including Rhino, Photoshop and Google Sketch-up to create models and advertising. It also improved my ability to understand and learn systems quickly and effectively, making it easier to apply myself to professional scenarios within a career. I also later found interest in learning the historical fundamentals of all the creative subjects I took through AS History of Art. It gave preference to a smaller interest in British and world history as well as explaining the origins of the techniques I had used and been taught. It allowed me to focus the writing and analytical skills of Product Design and English into a form more closely related to that I would use in Art. Along with this, I conducted artistic volunteering, helping with costume, props and film media for an amateur dramatics production at my local primary school. Furthermore, I aided a local art gallery, The Lightbox, with their various small scale and college shows, setting up paintings, sculptures and animation/film media for a viewing public, further presenting them during the open event to the public. This gained me a level of professional experience as well as skills in communication, presentation, professional set-up and leadership. Outside of education I hold interests in gardening and open space development as it is an outlay for my pro-eco and city development opinions and gives me a feeling of positive contribution to improving the natural environment. With this said, I hope to continue with my creative passion for the future. At present i have a yet undefined dream and definitive career however, with continued study i hope to find something that will be the start to a fulfilling creative lifetime that i can look back on a be proud of."
