Regarding Photography:
I've been taking photos almost since I can remember. It started more seriously with my father's camera. Then I ugraded to a Nikon F801s. In the digital era, I bought an Olympus C100 (late 2001) and now (since 2006) I'm using a Nikon D50.
Regarding Film vs Digital:
When I used film, I almost shoot slide film because every laboratory could (and did) ruin your best negative photos. I know I've learned a lot from that because with slide film you couldn't afford exposure and composition errors. Technique was very important.
At the moment I'm completly converted to digital. Since experimentation is much cheaper and faster, I can learn a lot in very few time. I feel my photography improved a lot since I've starting shooting with a DSLR. So, for me, digital wins. Despite that, every time I think in film and in my trusty F801s I feel very nostalgic... and I really admire those who still are using film cameras!
Regarding Post-Processing:
Since I was used to slide film I was very reluctant to post-process my digital photos. But after much reading and observation of others work, I found that post-processing is a necessity in almost every shot you take. Every camera records the photo in a different way and different from the way you saw it or want it.
So, currently I tend to post-process almost all my photos (well, I need to, since I shot RAW). I tend to keep processing to a minimum, mostly white balance adjustment when needed, minor contrast adjustment and eventually sharpening. Crooping only when absolutely needed or when thought prior to shooting. I tend to mantain the original aspect ratio.
Regarding software, I'm using Nikon View NX, Picasa and Irfanview. As you can see, I keep it simple and free.
Regarding Flickr:
I think Flickr is one of the best ways to share one's work.
Other than that, it allowed me to meet and interact with some very interesting people, to know their work and to learn from them.
Regarding Comments and Faves:
Everybody likes comments and faves. I'm no different.
I try to visit all my contacts streams in a regular basis. If I like a shot, I usualy comment (even just to say "great one" or "hi"). If I like it a lot (and "a lot" is very subjective even for me) I fave it. I also try to visit and comment on the streams of those who visit my stream.
Edit (2010/08): You may notice the my lack of comments and visits to your streams. I'm trying to spend less time in my computer on my free time and more time outdoors. Please, feel free not to comment :-)
For something more about me, please see my web page (only in portuguese, for now).
P.S.: From time to time, I also participate in this blog.
