I've been a keen photographer most of my life. In 1952 I started making black & white enlargements horizontally along the bath using a biscuit tin as a light source and my father’s folding camera as the lens!

My first camera was a Voitlander Vito B when I was 11yrs old, I took it to school. At 15yrs the Minolta SR1 then other 35mm Minoltas until stopping for a few years as I no longer had a darkroom.

The big revival came at last with SLR Digital cameras, first a Nikon D70, next a D200, then a D3x and now also a D800E all with some superb lens. I have recently added the Olympus EM-1, light weight and an excellent operating system!

The freedom and resolution of superb digital cameras has arrived after a long wait !!!!!!!

I belong to 2 local camera clubs, have an LRPS distinction from the Royal Photographic Society and am a judge for the Surrey Photographic Association and The South London Federation.

My main interest is travel photography; mainly to the middle east. I go alone avoiding hotels by camping, sleeping under the stars or with local people when invited,. That is how I get to know their way of life, It is satisfying to make so many new friends and get the chance of taking interesting photos at the same time.

You can see some of the best Images in my 3 albums on OMAN.

I also give an audio visual lecture to Camera Clubs on these trips, Titled "Travels Alone to Meet the People of OMAN". If you would like me to visit your group just contact me; I would be pleased to come.

My Travels to Meet the Peoples of OMAN.

I have been a member of the British Omani Society in London for many years.

You can read about, and see the images of this, the 1st of the 3 journeys I have made alone to learn about this amazing country and it’s friendly people.

My article and photography were published by the Society in their 2015 Review.

You can now access it here :- www.britishomani.org/annual-review

Select the ‘2015 Annual Review’, pan down, the article is on pages 12/15.

It’s very easy and safe, even I can do it!

Modern technology, despite my constant complaining, can be surprisingly useful..

Engaging with David Harford and his photography means that you are being taken on an adventure, visually and cognitively. David is not just a distinguished photographer, he is also opening up new worlds to us, just look at his exquisite work on Oman and its people. With David, you would have a sophisticated dialogue on the world, on vision, and on us. Personally, though I have never met him, I feel drawn to his work and very close indeed to David.
