Although I have only known Fred for a little over a year, his progress with his art has been nothing short of astonishing. From meeting Fred, you know he is an unassuming bloke, with a sharp eye for details, and an abstract eye at that. This combines to produce some stunning photos of the mundane turned on it's head. A simple photo of rain on a platform is not an inconvenience to Fred, it is an opportunity to create something magical. Upon meeting Fred, we were both operating with very basic point and shoot cameras, and trying to rack up as many train photos as possible. In the space of twelve months, he has gone on to upgrade his camera to an advanced point and shoot (which gives exceptional results in his hands, certainly enough to rival the fiercest of SLR camera enthusiasts), and with a far better base to start with, his mind has become free. I often go out photographing with Fred, and on our return to base, I am always curious to see what he will produce from our exploits. While we might both have the same train photos, there will be that one photo of a fence post, or a bird on a signal, or even a photo of an empty platform. The point is, these photos are not just "a photo", they are a look through what Fred sees every day - an artistic view of the mundane scene, and this is what makes Freds photostream such a pleasure to view. Fred is one of many photographers I know, and call friend, but he is one of the few that will amaze me with at least one "wow" photo for every "train" photo he uploads. A very talented gent, with the world of photography soon at his feet.
