FISU stands for Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (International University Sports Federation) and was founded in 1949. FISU is the sole recognised governing body for international University Sport.

THE WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES

A core responsibility of FISU is the supervision of both Summer and Winter World University Games, as well as the World University Championships. The World University Games are international sports and cultural events that are staged every two years in a different city. Both summer and winter World University Games editions draw several thousand student-athletes together, making them the two largest university multi-sport competitions in the world.

WORLD UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIPS

Having the Summer and Winter Universiades every other year was not enough for university sport competitors and fans. With this in mind, FISU launched the World University Championship series in 1963. As single sport competitions, World University Championship events give cities and often universities the chance to host a major international sports event with a minimum cost and complexity. In 2018, 34 stand-alone World University Championship events make for a calendar full of quality competitions
