I work as a marine biologist monitoring marine mammal interactions with offshore oil exploration operations in the Arctic ocean. I used to work as a fisheries biologist on the commercial fleet in the Bering sea and Gulf of Alaska.

I am still learning and any and all suggestions, comments, etc are very much welcome. In fact, one of the major reasons I decided to start posting these images is the hope of wiser and more experienced folks being critical and helpful!

UPDATE: I did it. I now have a Cannon rebel xti. It's time to go full DSLR! In a couple of days the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM (hubba hubba) will be on my doorstep. Very excited to take things to the next level. Sounds like I am going to have popeye forearms after learning to handhold this beast. Quite a chunk of gear compared to the old panasonic lumix fz20.
