The company was first registered in 1960. Trading started in rented premises in Ryton, Coventry. Following a successful start, a move was made to new leased premises in Torrington Avenue, Canley, Coventry. It was at this time around 1963 that the company was able to move into aerospace sector with Dunlop Aviaton Coventry. This covered Hose Division, Wheel and Braking Systems with all ancilliary equipment. This with other core companies, such as Jaguar, GKN, GEC and Wickman allowed the company to prosper. Precision machining within the aerospace industry has been at the core of this company for forty years.

During 1966 a decision was made to find a new site to build a freehold factory to secure the long term future of the company. Bayton Road Industrial Estate was located and the first unit was built in Brindley Road. This was occupied in 1967. This was followed over the next six years by three units being built in the same location. All four units are still owned by the company. Moves were made into the new pemises in 1972 and again in 1974 to the currently occupied unit. This allowed the company to develop and expand.

Quality has always been the pride of the company. This has been complimented by new machine tools; CNC being introduced in 1983, starting a new era in the business. This has been followed by continued new investments, with major purchases throughout 1998 to 2003, during which time tweleve new machines and ancillary equipment have been installed.

The company has enjoyed excellent relationships with core customers over the years, namely Dunlop Aviation and Rolls Royce. The length of employee service ranges from 38 to 1 years has enhanced the reputation of a company having a good continuity of work and employment.

With the restructuring of the global airline business, new and exciting challenges lay ahead for Firthstones with new business structures and development.
