First Second Books
Drag to set position!
This stream showcases the art of First Second Books' graphic novels, our creators, our staff, our readers, and the process that brings all of us together. Without our readers, First Second wouldn't exist, and it's our readers who made us as successful as we are today. Awww...we love you too.
First Second turned heads in 2006 when its American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang was the first graphic novel ever nominated for a National Book Award. It went on to win the coveted Printz Award, another first for the comics medium.
First Second continues to pioneer the very best in graphic novels today, with a growing collection of works for every age category, in a startling variety of themes and styles.
First Second creators include luminaries from the graphic novel field from all around the world, as well as novelists, playwrights and screenwriters new to the form. To name but a few: Scott McCloud, Eddie Campbell, Jessica Abel, Paul Pope, Sara Varon, Gene Yang, Derek Kirk Kim, Jane Yolen, Adam Rapp, Joann Sfar, Lewis Trondheim, Emmanuel Guibert, and many others "newcomers and veterans" who call First Second home.
We aim to help raise every standard in this vibrant, vital medium and make the graphic novel a staple on the bookshelves of every American household.
