Dear friends and followers of Michael Lusk (finsmal),

Michael was diagnosed with colon cancer in November and after a rapid decline, passed away on January 3rd. He passed peacefully, with family by his side.

A memorial to celebrate his life will be held on January 18th at St. Bonaventure Church in Clayton at 11am. Please join us in sharing our memories of the man behind the camera.

Thanks you.

A note from Michael:

I'm responsible for what you see...

not for how you interpret what you see...

...I give the viewer no clues about what to expect...they're allowed to explore and engage individually...

Books I have done the last couple of years...all rather narcisstic exercises...I don't make money doing this stuff...100% ego trip to look at my books on my coffee table knowing from start to finish I've done it all...

Finsmal’s stream offers us a gallery wherein we can lose ourselves – gazing into myriad images, be they abstractions or representational. I have found at times I have spent nearly an hour looking through works and yet not even left a comment – the art speaks over the FLICKR obligation to fave and comment. There is SO much inspirational work here, and I shan’t keep you from venturing forth by continuing to wax rhapsodic. This is a true and pure artist, and I am honored to see and be seen by him.

Yet the author demonstrates appropriate learned awareness (and is declarative - recognising that there really is nothing totally new under the sun) of his diverse roots in the modern history of the picture. This is a truly amazing prodigious and prolific talent! Salute!

Mike was one of my earliest "finds" on flickr, the first photos where I exclaimed "wow!", the first photographer that opened my eyes to my own world a little wider. Mike truly has an artist's eye and passion, offering us nearly daily gifts of color, texture & composition. Whether his subject is graffiti on a boxcar, an urban street surface, abstracted flower, or a shiny car... he consistenly and thoughtfully stays true to his style and vision, regardless of how many people happen to see a particular shot or how many "awards" have been handed out. Thanks, Mike for your inspiring work, sense of humor, and prolific stream of artistry!

I like your pictures so much. There is so many I like that I could say too many often: beautiful, nice shot, wow! I begin to be speechless (no, no, I'm not bored) about what I see. So... I prefer to offer you a testimonial to say that I appreciate your work. By the way, sorry for my english. I hope you understood… Read more
