My name is XiaochenFeng. I was born in 1995 and I am from Dalian, Liaoning province.

When I was 5 years old, I was always drawing everywhere using my Father’s painting brush. At that time, my father told me: “Creativity can bring the most happiness.” his words have always been on mind since then.

I am very lucky and proud of having such a father: he always teaches me that all inspiration roots from careful observation and you will never have a lack of inspiration as long as you are good at observing (My dad is a university professor, an Artist, and an interior designer. He was born of the creation ability and open minded). It has become to be my habit to be aware of things around me since I was a kid. Since I was able to hold a pen, I have been constantly trying to describe all kinds of views by drawing. After graduating from middle school, I was successfully enrolled to one of the most famous No. 15 high school of Arts, which is the only high school focusing on Arts. Since then, my dream of being a professional designer began.

Same as most students, I always paint the thingwhich feels right. But I do not totally understand where does creativity come from and I want to learn more on how to put creativity into practice. I always go to learn and practise in my father’s projects, which is a very important and valued opportunity for me. Time spent during these internships has helped me find the way to connect creativity and practice and also build a great interest in interior design. I am able to create my own design work through careful observation, exquisite feel, and rediscover. Art has helped me realize that inspiration is around me and always in my mind.

In the process of learning, I have realized the uniqueness of traditional Chinese culture and I am fanatical about it. However, I also realized that traditional culture cannot be copied and used mechanically in modern world. Instead, I need to think outside the box and try to combine Chinese culture and Western culture in order to convey traditional Eastern spirit and modern life style under western fashion. Through the format and language that is both familiar and unfamiliar among people, I convey my own unique concept of design and taste of life.

While some students stopover singly creating by hand, I have begun to utilize computers to assist my work. Since my father has his own studio, he has a lot of devices like computers, scanners, hand-painted plates, laser printers, plotting devices etc. Thus, it is very convenient for me to take advantage of them. In addition, the assistants of my father also teach me a lot generously. I am able to use the software of 3dmax, Photoshop, and Coreldraw to help me complete my works. My work portfolio is completed by using these programs.

The works in my portfolio were completed when I was in Grade 10 and 11.
