Hello everyone!
Really nice to have your accompaniment and sharing experiences with one another as we ride along this interesting journey of fatherhood & photography!
My name is Lawrence and I am a busy but joyful father (of three beautiful and happy kiddy girls) who is currently unable to find ample time (or didn't understand time management) solely just for outdoor photography as I am always preoccupied by work at home as well as taking care of my princessess.
However, I realised that taking photos need not always focus on a particular genre (unless you are making a living selling your photos/services) like the more popular ones in landscape, macro, sport, wedding or other events photography etc.
It can generally be anything from abstract, story telling, documenting life's journey or any form documentation from the comfort of your home or things around you. Learn to appreciate what you are doing and determine if you should continue doing that. (Usually it takes time in your learning curve, perseverance and more importantly, reference to other photographers' work).
Typically, for me, success boils down to three specific areas namely:
(1) INTEREST,
(2) PURPOSE, and
(3) INNOVATION.
Doing something you like will not be enough; you gotta have good ideas to keep the flame burning to at least achieve some basic form of success, feeling great about it and then grow further from there; still working diligently on and around the same idea you've tasked to start in the very beginning.
Same theory applies for being a parent.
In learning that my purpose of my life is being a responsible father, I started putting my old habits aside, setting more time for my kids, using photography as a means of documenting their lifes' happenings/stories.
In this way, my enthusiasm (INTEREST) in these two areas (photography and parenting) sky rocketed threefold as I've figured out the need (PURPOSE) to be a loving father to my three girls and photography (INNOVATION) can be one of my tools to expand my interest.
I thus started learning the ropes of lifestyle photography (Including still life photos; capturing whatever I deem suitable; eg selecting household objects to shoot), and my family; working around my shots by focusing on perspectives/angles and moods to create visual friendly as well as emotionally touching photos.
