Currently, I am Managing Director of College Application Training (CAT) and I have over 20 yrs experience with the college application process.
I was high school valedictorian at La Canada High School, and I was accepted at every school to which I applied, including University of Southern California (USC) and UC Berkeley, ultimately attending USC on a merit scholarship. After spending my Junior year in Paris, France at the prestigious Institute of Political Science, I began teaching SAT prep for The Princeton Review during my senior year. Graduating Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a dual degree in International Relations and French, I continued teaching SAT prep while beginning my career as a professional writer. During this time my work with students expanded to include essay coaching and my students were accepted at universities such as Columbia University and UCLA, among others. After my play, THE FREEDOM BALL was produced in conjunction with the Los Angeles Theatre Centre, I decided to further my own mastery of the writing process by returning to USC to attain an MFA in screenwriting from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts.
After graduating from USC, where I was the recipient of the Mary Pickford, Frank Sinatra, USC Associates and Women in Film scholarships, I augmented my filmmaking education by working in the business side of the entertainment industry. As a member of the literary department at Innovative Artists Agency, I managed projects from outline to deal and discovered why certain projects sold while others received the dreaded “pass.” As an acquisitions consultant for Vivendi Entertainment, I analyzed projects from the buyer’s perspective, identifying the attributes a film needs to secure the much sought after distribution deal. In my own writing, I have incorporated my creative training with my business experience to create works with both artistic and commercial merit. Recent credits include the romantic comedy, SAVE THE DATE, written for Momentum Productions and the play for young adults, CAMPING, currently being performed in English and Spanish for Northridge Hospital’s Teen Sex Education Program. My novel, THE GIRLS ADVENTURE CLUB is currently on the market, being represented by the New York literary agency, Brandt and Hochman.
I continued to incorporate my education and experience into my work with students creating my own process to immediately improve performance. Adding organizational skills learned from juggling multiple scripts and productions to my SAT prep and essay coaching, I streamlined a system to get the college applications done with minimum stress and maximum individuality. As the college application process has become almost impossibly overwhelming and needlessly complicated, I specifically designed the CAT program to train college bound students to create great applications without the process taking over their lives. Using these techniques, students have been accepted to USC, UCLA, NYU, Columbia University, Bucknell University and George Washington University, among others.
In short, College Application Training is "The Fastest Way to a Great College Application!"
