These photos are about applications of agricultural biotechnologies in crops, forestry, livestock, fisheries and agro-industry. The term 'agricultural biotechnologies' is defined in a broad sense (following the CBD's definition of biotechnology) and encompasses many technologies used in food and agriculture for a number of different purposes, such as the genetic improvement of plant varieties and animal populations to increase their yields or efficiency; the characterization and conservation of genetic resources for food and agriculture; plant or animal disease diagnosis; and vaccine development. For more information, see the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) website www.fao.org/biotech/ (in English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese and Russian).
