Myra Falisz is valued for her right-brain creativity and left-brain resourcefulness that have energized an array of art, communications and technology initiatives. She is an intuitive, versatile artist who is most enthusiastic when discovering connections that help re-imagine a framework and reveal a story.
She enjoys new interpretations of old materials, forms and images. She has an unbending curiosity for the interplay of color, pattern and texture, and the energetic surprises they create. Her artistic language melds ideas across multiple disciplines and time periods for a richer experience. Her current body of work is the Prague Pattern Series, inspired by architectural elements that distinctly reflect her Czech heritage.
Her passion for artisan furnishings and pattern illustration was cultivated at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has since studied at Anderson Ranch Arts Center and with master woodworker Sam Maloof. Her room dividers have been exhibited at the Furniture Society International Conference in San Francisco, the California Biennial at Laguna Art Museum, and Design Within Reach Studio, Newport Beach.
Falisz’s practice as an artist is expanding to the realm of social narrative. Her strong interest in urbanism coupled with her desire to be closer to family prompted a cross-country relocation in mid-2009. Her goal was to regain a sense of community and move herself out into the world. Since that time, she has emerged as a civically minded and fully engaged artist in her new neighborhood of Polish Hill, Pittsburgh, PA.
She received her BA in liberal arts from Otterbein College, an MA in communication from Duquesne University, and did postgraduate work at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Recent studies include the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council’s Public Art 101 and Public Art Academy Series.
