Cricket analysts often judge a great batsman by his range of strokes. If that yardstick were applied to the photographers who post on Flickr, few would make the cut. Anoop Negi, though, would - for sure! The vast majority of good photogs. are stuck in one genre, even if that genre is vast. Anoop on the other hand has, over time, regaled us with photographs of tropical landscapes, old architecture, cultural activity and personae, models for clothing, and many other subjects. His posts often include interesting background information. His skill is at the pro level - the kind of level that a publication or commercial establishment could hire/use with trust, a level that's still beyond many of us. His knowledge is such that, every time I post a photograph here, I hope it will receive the honor of Anoop's critique. (And he's been kind.)

It has been more than one year since I know him. and apparently I am one of the few blessed souls on flickr who got a chance to meet him, more than once :P shoot with him and 'learn' from him. I am the one who has taken all the liberty, being such a naughty student if that to say the least.. and well, it is now I am writing these few words here.. ( ...am so sinful) I guess this is what shows I haven't yet learned my lessons ...Gurudev. Well everyone here on Flickr talks about , how influenced he or she is of your photography But I am not going to add anything on that front because It has turned in to a phenomenon in itself. It is something that I am hardly qualified enough to comment about. I know you more as a Guide, a Person whom I look up to for advice on anything and everything related to photography and beyond. In one sentence, I know one thing that.. well, "you know how to do it right" We had planned for a trip together to Ladakh in 2010 to shoot that wonderful high world of barren beauty. It is a pity, that I had to make it there all alone.... and then you made your trip later. I hate you for that as you were doubly blessed with the warm hospitality of the Defence forces to provide you inputs on Ladakh whereas I was left to wander on the India - Pakistan border all alone :P But well, I'll make sure, that I create random chances and more opportunities to be bestowed by your august company and actually learn more from you.. Kindness, patience, humility, openness and willingness to share with others his knowledge, is what makes him special. I strongly believe that only those with great heart make great images - and Sirjee is such a great example of one such person. He is also the one who inspires me to continue photographing everyday, his images are not cliched and offer his unique point of view. When Anoop wrote a testimonial about me, I was humbled— for he is a photographer that I admire as among the most talented on Flickr. Not only does he have a broad command of the technical aspects of photography, he has an incredible eye. His work is broad and it is diverse. From stunning landscapes to amazing portraits to images that tell a story, Anoop has mastered them all. To me, his trademark is a exclamation of a vivid color or a to punctuate an image. The brightly colored bus, rounding a corner— providing a sense of motion, as well as drawing the eye through the image in a pleasing way. A monk in a crimson red robe, surrounded by tones of gold. A series of story telling images. From fairs to carnivals to Free Tibet— I have learned a lot from just spending time with his photostream. And, Anoop always seems to find the perfect thing to say about my images, when he comments. He often picks something that I had overlooked, yet when I see what he is saying, I understand better why I liked my own photo to begin with. Of all though, his efforts with Free Tibet, personify Anoop. He is brings a social conscience to Flickr. A low key effort, yet I believe it was an effective one. When he had the Free Tibet initiative on, I was skiing in western Canada. I remember stomping around in the snow to find an image that would fit in his effort. I found one. I published it. It made explore. I was shocked. I was also gratified that perhaps, in some small, incremental way, it helped the cause. So, as you peruse Anoops work, you are seeing a remarkable talent at work on many levels. It is a journey of enlightenment! He is a master!
