I am the Director of Photography for Soundcheck Magazine. And, because there was no one else to do it, I also design the magazine and the web site.

 

The first concert I attended was the Beach Boys playing after a Texas Rangers game on the 4th of July.

 

The first concert I attended without parental supervision was Santanta and The Scorpions opening for Def Leppard. It was the Hysteria tour and everyone wanted to be a one-armed drummer.

 

The first concert I photographed was Brooks & Dunn opening for Garth Brooks at Billy Bob's in 1991. Growing up as I did in Ft. Worth, it was nearly impossible to escape the clutches of country music. Ten years would pass before I shot another show.

 

To make a very long story incredibly short, I met a band. They rocked my world and I had to photograph them. I became their chronicler, webmaster, tour manager and nagging conscience. We traveled the country and, as they gained popularity, they were asked to play some large music festivals. I scored photo passes to those festivals and was able to build a modest portfolio. When the band broke up, it tore out my heart. I chose sides and continued working with the new band that rose from the ashes. The publishers of Soundcheck wanted to put the new band on the cover of their first issue and they asked me to take the photos. I continued working with them and, eight months later, I was a co-owner of the magazine
