I am grateful for my family, and for each new day that HE allows me to wake up to enjoy all of HIS blessings.
I was never a very religious person, but surviving a near death experience has given me religion, and a deep appreciation for life.
I have been admiring many beautiful photographs on Flickr for a good long time and have been inspired by many talented photographers to capture some moments of my own. So I have finally mustered up the courage to post my photos here, and am looking forward to criticisms.
In my youth and up until about 11 years ago when my wife and I got out of the Photo Lab business, I enjoyed film photography. Packed away somewhere I have my old Canon FTBn which my dad bought for me on my 18th birthday.
I began experimenting with digital photograph composition using the limitations of my cell phone camera. My daughter has since given me her older Digital Nikon CoolPix 5600 which offers me many more features than my cell phone, and I can use it with a tripod. I am looking forward to experimenting with it.
My goal is to obtain a fairly decent Digital SLR if I feel that my hobby warrants such an investment.
Update:
I ordered a new camera today...not a DSLR, but a more realistic Canon PowerShot G10. My reasons:
1. Right now it's what our budget allows for,
2. My very limited skills and knowledge of digital photography, but something that I can learn about digital photography with,
3. The Canon G10 gives me the manual contols of an SLR that I crave, and
4. My physical limitations (I am a stroke survivor, and I am very dependent on using a cane). I can't exactly carry around various photographic equipment and lenses.
I am confident that I made the correct choice taking everything into consideration. Time will tell. In the days to come I expect to spend quite a bit of time learning how to use my new camera.
Update:
While I absolutely love my Canon G10, it only makes me want a DSLR even more as my understanding of digital photography increases. The G10 has more features than I possibly could have hoped for, and it allows for manual operation, which I feel is essential. If only it was capable of a 50MM / 1.4 ...I would be a very happy camper :) Make no mistake though, I am very grateful for my G10 and I am a long way from outgrowing it.
Update:
The more I use my G10, the more I find to love about it. I am also getting into editing with Photoshop and various HDR software that I am experimenting with. This has opened up yet an entirely new world of possibilities and enjoyment for me that lends itself perfectly to digital photography. As if digital photography wasn't amazing enough just on it's own!
Update:
I have discovered a whole new world of editing thanks to my very knowledgeable and skilled 13 year old grandson, and various plug-ins and textures for Photoshop. I truly feel like the proverbial kid in a candy shop!
Thank you for looking at my photos.
