I got my first 35mm SLR about 1977, a manual Canon. My early subjects of interest were airplanes, my niece, and landscapes. I took a photography class at our community college which gave me some grounding. We even did some darkroom work. I have had some dormant periods during which my camera rarely gets out of the bag, but I always look forward to finding more images.
My main interest these days are landscapes. I regret that I did not use a tripod or monopod untill the last couple years. Many of my early images suffered from narrow DOF resulting from being hand-held and using a reasonable shutter speed.
I am fortunate to live in an area such as East Tennessee with respect to the photographic opportunities.
I have yet to make the move to a digital SLR but I do intend to do so. Most of my images have been taken with three different Canon 35mm cameras.
I have had a lot of enjoyment looking at so many beautiful and interesting photos on flickr. Thanks to those who have shared their pictures. Although I don't travel much, I do hope to later. In the meantime, seeing pictures of the places is an enjoyable and informative substitute. I have a strong desire to visit Scotland and other parts of Great Britain.
For those who plan to visit the US South you should include a tour through Cades Cove one of the prettiest places I have been. I read a quote that a professional photographer could make a career shooting exclusively in Cades Cove. Not much of an exagerration.
