I have traveled extensively, 90% in North America. Since 2000, and the start of digital cameras, I have been photographing my world (western North America), first with my Olympus C3000Z, and from that time on, Canon Powershots; for the past 9 years, a Canon SX50. It's lightweight and has a powerful range, and works well if you don't drop it 270 feet by Wuksachi Falls in Sequoia NP.

I’m not exactly certain when I discovered Ethan’s excellent photostream after I joined Flickr, but making contact with Ethan was a fortuitous encounter. Not only is Ethan a very good photographer, but his writing abilities and background allows him to be truly engaging, either when annotating his own posted photo or leaving a comment about another’s. His descriptions, often humorous, always entertaining, adds immeasurably to the pleasure of visiting his photostream. When leaving a comment about another’s photo, Ethan is never the type of person to leave a one or two word, “Nice shot”-type, half-hearted praise, but rather takes the time to provide a meaningful comment regarding what struck him about the photo. Ethan has a substantial number of excellent photographers who follow him and comment on his every post and it’s not without good reason.

I visited Ethan's Photostream a few months ago as I had seen one of his amazing Dragonflies and have been hooked every since. Not only are Ethan's photographs amazing but the information about the subjects that he gives is fantastic. The true passion of the photographer comes through. I once wrote on his photostream that he should write a book on Dragonflies and Damselflies and did not realise that he worked in writing and publishing and dearly hope that sometime he would put his art and passion for the wonderful wildlife he captures into print. Thank you so much Ethan for sharing your gift with us and look forward to more of your art in your photostream in the future. Let us go forth, the tellers of tales, and seize whatever prey the heart long for, and have no fear. Everything exists, everything is true, and the earth is only a little dust under our feet. Ethan, got me started with this hobby several years ago and it sure has been a fun trip. He recommended the Canon SX 40 on Amazon and I followed his advice which was spot on. I have since graduated to an SX 50 and, like he commented, this will probably be my last. (unless they develop an SX70!) This is a great hob… Read more
