I have been a lifelong insect enthusiast and aspiring entomologist. My favorite insects are the Hymenoptera: wasps, ants, bees, and sawflies. This account is a repository for my insect macrophotography. Most of my experience is with studio lightbox photos, but I experiment with field photography as well.

Most of my photos are taken using the following equipment: Canon 7D camera; 100mm and 65mm MP-E macro lenses; MT-24EX and 430EX flash units; flash diffusers, and a light box miniature studio. Post-processing is done primarily in Adobe Light Room 5.

All animals in my photographs are alive and were found in the wild (not bred domestically or purchased), unless otherwise noted. If a photograph has a natural-looking background, I will note whether it was taken in the field or was staged in a studio.

I release all animals after photographing them, either where I first found them, or in a similar habitat or on a host plant of the same species. The only animals I collect as specimens are those that, unfortunately, died soon after capture. I photograph and release specimens promptly to minimize that risk as much as possible.
