I'm an enthusiastic photographer located in the mountains of West Virginia, USA. I started out taking photos at motorsports events around the early 2000's, using a Minolta SLR, then moved on to an Olympus DSLR, both of which were borrowed from my dad. He taught me everything I needed to know at the time, how to operate a camera, the exposure triangle, how to pan to capture a fast moving subject, etc. I got my own first camera, a Canon Rebel T6, in late 2019 right as the racing season was ending. Up until this time I had been reading tons of articles, making notes, and trying to absorb as much information about photography as I could. I had been too excited to not use the camera and practice everything I had been learning, so I took up landscape photography as a way of holding myself over until the racing started back up. So my dad and I went out shooting waterfalls and the rest is history.
I still photograph motorsports events occasionally, but landscapes are my primary focus now. My personal favorite subjects to photograph are mountain streams that have decent sized cascades, definition, and interesting features. Most of these streams would typically be home to trout, the better ones holding natives. My close, but second favorite subjects are woodland scenes, especially with some fog and maybe a sun ray or two. I don't shoot as many of either as I want to, but hopefully that will change soon. I also shoot a good bit of sunrises and sunsets as well as the occasional rural scene since West Virginia has plenty of those.
I'm a proud member of a local Co-Op made up of some very talented people and I have large canvas prints of some of my photos hanging up at a local hospital. I've been in a state-wide magazine a few times, in the back page where they feature their favorite instagram posts and once on the table of contents. I'm still working on making it in the gallery section. Maybe one day...
I still read and study as much as I can about certain aspects of photography while at home, giving me the itch to go out in the field and try it all out. Lately I've been concentrating on what makes a good composition, foreground, leading lines, rule of thirds, golden ratio, using light and color to clearly define the subject, etc. I actually enjoy getting out of my comfort zone to expand my horizons and try something new, whether it's a technique in post-processing or photographing a scene that I normally wouldn't pay attention to. This is probably why I don't have one dominant subject in my catalog of photos. I'm okay with that.
I'm still trying to learn as much as I can, in the field and in post, and I sincerely welcome any and all feedback on my work if one was so inclined.
Thanks for visiting my page and I hope you enjoy my photos!
