These images represent the world I have seen and experienced. When I'm gone, they will remain to let others know what this place was like in my eyes.

I'm fascinated with photography as the "freezing of time." Though I cannot literally stop the swirling of atoms or the drifting of photons through the universe, I can record an imprint of where they were at any precise moment I choose. That is power, in a sense.

If the photons I record bouncing off the varied molecules in front of me enable another person to better understand the world they live in, whether by imparting knowledge, sharing an appreciation for beauty, or transporting them vicariously to a time or place they could not go otherwise, I have accomplished something significant.

I got started in photography in a photo lab years ago. The only thing I knew about cameras at that time was how to push the shutter button, but I learned how to print a photograph, and realized pushing the shutter button is only part of what makes an image. Much of the artistry of an image depends on the person producing the final print, whether that be in an actual darkroom or a digital one. I printed around 200,000 images in the lab, examining each one for printing errors, but also looking at composition, lighting, and subject matter. I learned what made a photograph appealing or unappealing and the vocabulary to describe those differences. I familiarized myself with the intricacies of my camera.

I eventually made the transition to the digital darkroom, and now continue to capture the world around me and print those scenes on an Epson Stylus Pro 7900HDR printer.
