I've been taking pictures since I was tiny; my mom and grandfather have both at various times made their living with photographs, so they encouraged me. However, I only really started developing my "eye" a few years ago; since then I've tried to (a) learn what, exactly, I am trying to capture and what I love in a photo, and (b) how to capture exactly that consistently, instead of haphazardly and when I randomly happen to do it. :->
I actually take pictures for two reasons, only one of them being art. The other is to document the object or event being photographed; a snapshot, really, I suppose, but more properly an aide-memoire.
Most of my 'keeper' photos since the first day I acquired a digicam are in my main photo webspace, although they're not as nicely arranged or easily-surfable as the ones I've put on Flickr. I'm using Flickr as sort of a 'best-of' collection, the photos that have something I want to say or share -- and mostly the 'art'. :->
Also, as I am on dialup instead of broadband, I never upload Huge, Printable Sizes to Flickr. If you like what I shoot and am interested in higher resolutions, you'll find them here.
I also occasionally submit photos to JPG Magazine; if you like my stuff here, feel free to go through and vote on my stuff there.
If a shot is from before May 2006, it was taken on my (former, now-dead) Sony Cybershot DSC-P7. If it was 5/06 or later, it was taken on my new hotness, a Sony Cybershot DSC-W50. These are both rather limited cameras, but I find I learn how to work around that with experience. Unfortunately, I don't yet HAVE that experience with the new hotness, so my quality is down. :-> I'm particularly disappointed with its low-light tendency to throw red speckles over areas of black, which I find impossible to remove with my (also very limited) editing software.
