Art has been a part of my life since I was very young. Over the years, I have delved into different forms, including fabric art -- weaving and quilting -- as well as drawing and painting. For the past several years, I have focused on stone sculpting. I attended classes at the DeCordova Museum School for one year and have been studying with Ann Deluty since.

My work is largely concept art; I work to discover the world in the object. When I am sculpting, I typically spend a significant amount of time studying the stone – the "Zen" of sculpting. I place the stone in locations where I can stare at it for extended periods of time and in others locations where I will simply catch a glimpse of it. Inspiration builds and hits.

Using abstract, simple lines, I sculpt curves and openings into the stone. Many times, I will leave the raw stone with the sculpted surfaces and interplay the two. Each viewer has their own concept of what the piece is about – one piece can evoke many different feelings.

The immensity and power of the ocean has always struck me and seems suited to the strength of stone. I have carved representational and realistic sculptures of waves, shells, and other ocean finds. Like my abstract work, these sculptures have smooth, rolling curves and openings.

The stones have a life of their own. Their colorations, transparencies, opacities and lines always play a part in what will develop. Some stones are more insistent than others.

I love all stages of the process. In the beginning, the stone is full of potential. As I work, the piece emerges and takes shape (literally and figuratively). In the final exciting stages, I see the sculpture to completion……and the cycle continues.
