ETHNO-PHOTOGRAPHY

I am a retired anthropologist living in northeast Thailand. I enjoy photography as a hobby, next to cycling, swimming, and practicing abdomen acupuncture and massage.

---Festival & event photography---

I feel inspired by the rich history and culture of the countries in Asia. My goal is to create visual records that document Asian culture and traditions. The aim is to preserve and share history by portraying cultural heritage. Due to practical considerations, I mainly take photos at festivals and events throughout Thailand.

---Dance pose photography---

I have a passion for photographing temple dances at the ruins of ancient temples. The goal is to portray dancers in a historical setting, wearing costumes that reflect the era of the location. The aim is to keep the cultural heritage alive. Occasionally, I organize these photo sessions myself.

---Tattoo photography---

Infrequently, I photograph Asian tattoos, which interest me as a biographical language, i.e. as carriers of a unique and permanent form of communication. In every culture and era tattoos represent and help create personal and cultural (collective) identity. To me, Japanese and Chinese tattoos stand out for their visual appeal and symbolism.

---Portrait photography---

Most of the photos I take are in fact portraits of people. Portraits freeze a specific moment in time, preserving how someone looked, felt, and expressed themselves. They are kind of visual biographies. I capture portraits to celebrate the person photographed and to help the person feel seen. Portrait photo sessions in my home studio also provide me with an opportunity to try-out lenses and cameras.
