I shoot hand-held in a relatively straight style. I walk around and shoot things that interest me. No tripod, no lights, rarely a flash, necessarily restricted by available light.

 

I hope to make images that are compelling in their way, always carefully composed. Contemplative, with a hint of drama or mystery. Often not tethered to a particular time.

 

I want to suggest a story by showing a piece of a larger whole. The story is only partially told, leaving the viewer to fill in the details and the meaning for themselves. I like the poetic nature of the exercise--photos that don't offer up everything at first viewing, and invite participation.

 

The camera teaches me to really look, really see.

 

Creativity is a word that is liberally tossed around. But photographers know they are indeed creators, remaking the world to suit their eye. It is a beautiful, perhaps selfish, powerful act.
